No octroi in 7 Gujarat towns

In a bid to woo the business community ahead of the Gujarat Assembly polls this year-end, the Narendra Modi Government on Wednesday decided to abolish octroi from all seven municipal corporations8212;Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar and Junagadh8212;from November 15.

The decision was taken at a weekly Cabinet meeting chaired by Narendra Modi. The Government has directed its Finance Department to work out modalities before Diwali to compensate these civic bodies with sufficient funds in lieu of octroi and submit its report.
