Pratap Fauzdar knew he had a funny side to him when friends coaxed him to sign up for the laughter shows on television. Since then this engineer who runs his own automobile business has been making everyone have a good laugh. But what most don’t know that there’s a very serious side to him as well. “I actually started with Hindi poetry,” tells Fauzdar who was in town to perform at the Chandigarh Carnival. Interestingly, he has a passion for history and has even penned two books. “Comedy is just an extension of my work,” tells the vibrant Singh who had an “interesting stint in television.” “One of the difficulties I faced was because I am a Sikh. As a comedian you have to come on stage in various getups, which I couldn’t being a turbaned Sikh,” tells Pratap who also refused to compromise in many situations. “Most of the shows are pre-scripted and you are given what you have to do. I felt I couldn’t take a call at most places and that’s when I decided to move on,” tells the comedian who for now is making the most of live shows. “The response is instant,” he smiles to say.
