NEW DELHI, June 8: NJN Sports gained full points by virtue of their 4-1 victory over Union Sports Club in a group B match of the DSA-SAIL `B’ division league at the Ambedkar Stadium here today. They led 4-0 at half time.
NJN striker Diren Senapati struck twice within a space of two minutes to put his side 2-0 up. Virender Rawat increased the tally to 3-0 in the 14th minute while Rakesh Negi got the fourth goal in the 16th minute.
Union Club defence, who could hardly do anything to check the NJN forwards, can however draw consolation from the fact that they could pull one back in the 43rd minute through a goal by Karamjit.
In another group B match, Young Sports prevailed over Young Heroes 4-1 to earn full points. Young Heroes took the lead in the 15th minute through Raj Kumar who scored through a penalty. Stung by this goal, Young Sports went all out to come back into the game. They succeeded in the 35th minute when Goldy Thomas equalised with a good goal.
Thereafter there was no looking back for Young Sports who kept on the pressure and score three more goals. Defender Tariz put them 2-1 ahead in the 38th minute while Jasbir increased the lead to 3-1 in the 40th minute before substitute Amit Jagota completed the tally in the 58th minute.
Raisina Sporting were held to a one-all draw by Gulabi Bagh at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Kole put Raisina Sporting in the lead in the 35th minute while Gulabi Bagh restored parity through Parveen off a penalty kick five minute later.
Delhi Veterans got full points when they were awarded the match against West Delhi Club, who had been debarred from the league as they had given two successive walk-overs in the league.
SAIL win NEW DELHI: SAIL (Rourkela) defeated Air India Academy 2-1 in the opening match of the Nehru Hockey coaching camp quadrangular competition here. Air India Academy took the lead in the eighth minute through M Fahad. SAIL equalised seven minutes later when S. Dung Dung scored.
N Tirkey scored the winner for SAIL in the 19th minute. Two other teams taking part in the competition are — Punjab and Sind Bank Academy (Jalandhar) and Nehru Colts.
