When Ramesh Jain, owner of Chanel, a Kids and Teenage apparels store, went to open his shop in the Harkishandas building on Friday September 26 located on the Raja Ram Mohan Roy road, he was stunned to see his shop completely blocked by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport BEST new swanky bus stop.

The footpath on which Jain runs his shop since 1990 also has a 8216;Prathana Samaj8217; bus stop8212;a halt for bus route no 65 and 69. 8220;Things were fine when we closed the shop on Friday night, but next day when I came, I was stunned to see that it was blocked by the BEST bus stop. We immediately filed a non-cognizable complaint with the police who instructed us to contact the BEST. I tried contacting the BEST officials, but Saturday and Sunday being non-working days, nothing was done,8221; said Jain who couldn8217;t open the shop since last two days.

8220;Our officers will visit the site and ascertain the problem on Monday. We will see what type of relief can be given to him and if there is no solution of for this, then we will remove the bus stop from the spot,8221; said BEST chairman Pravin Chedda.

Interestingly, this is not the first time the BEST has received complaints from the shopkeepers against the new swanky bus stops for blocking the shop8217;s way. The swanky bus stops which are being installed across the city since last year, also earn revenue for BEST through advertisements.
