PUNE, Oct 29: The exercise of preparing a master plan for the Rs 150-crore ambitious Mutha river beautification scheme will be re-done by appointing a new consulting committee, Pune Municipal Commissioner Rajiv Agarwal said at the general body meeting today.
The elected representatives had reservations about the administration8217;s decision to hand over the multi-crore contract to the Pune River Group PRG 8211; a body of architects, engineers, historians and experts- following a competition seeking draft plans from bidders for the Mutha river beautification.
Subsequently, the civic administration had at its previous meeting sent back the proposal of the PRG to prepare a detailed plan for reconsideration. Raising the issue BJP Corporator Ujwal Keskar today demanded to know whether the administration had checked the cost factor and on what basis was Rs 3 crore allowed as consulting charges for the PRG.
The administration admitted its lapse on thoroughly scrutinising the financial feasibility of the project and said that the PRG organisation was registered only after the docket had been tabled. An open-air riverside theatre behind Balgandharva Rangmandir, floating restaurants, a business centre at Hingne and an amusement park were among the activities that had been proposed along the banks of the river in the plan.
Keskar objected to the proposal to sell the State Government godowns to raise money for the project when the PMC did not own the land. He further termed various points in the draft plan as fanciful. Agarwal admitted that there had been a lapse on the part of the administration and decided to devise a fresh master plan for the scheme.
Earlier, V G Dhadphale, additional city engineer water supply told the house that he had conducted a survey of the Chandanagar, Yerawada and Wadgaon Sheri areas which faced a problem of worm-infested water.
