CHANDIGARH, Aug 2: Horizons, the centre for handicapped children at St John8217;s High School, was inaugurated this morning.

It begins with five students whom Centre Coordinator Georgiane Singh describes as quot;young people with lower intelligent quotientquot;.

quot;St John8217;s is the first to open an experimental programme for handicapped children like this, quot; said Brother Gerard Alvarez, Provincial of the organisation.

Today being the first day, parents had come in with the children. quot; From tomorrow onwards parents will drop the children and leave them to us,quot; said a beaming Georgiane Singh.

It was the first day at school but the new pupils had already made friends with the teachers and fellow pupils.

Playing with clay models and solving puzzles, the children were geared up for the year ahead.
