VADODARA, APRIL 30: The M S University syndicate's decision to charge developmental fees from students from the next academic year has drawn mixed reactions from university authorities. The proposal was cleared by the members in the last syndicate meeting.Dean of the faculty of medicine Kamal Pathak said though finance was necessary for the development of the university, the authorities should generate income through other means.Since most of the students came from middle-class families, paying additional fees would be a burden on them, he said, adding that donors would happily pay for MSU's development.Syndicate member Nikhil Desai said, ``If students pay development fees, they'll feel responsible for the university.''Dean of the Faculty of Social Work, Anil Navle said the decision was welcome, especially when the university was striving towards being a self-financed institute. Development fees would definitely help the financial aspect of the university, he added.Student union vice-president Hemal Shah said though university students could be taken for granted she alleged that they hadn't been told about the rally till two days before the jubilee their money should not be taken for granted.She said the amount demanded Rs 200 each from arts, commerce and science student and Rs 500 from the students of professional courses was also very high.
