NEW DELHI, Jan 3: ITC Maurya defeated South Delhi 7-4 while Teachers beat 61 Cavalry `B’ 7 1/2-4 in the Sawai Man Singh Gold Vase polo championship. In other matches, 61 Cavalry `A’ scored 8-7 win over ASC while Jindal Steel and Power beat Arty/Lancers 14-5.

For ITC Maurya, their Argentinian player A. Nero scored four goals while Adhiraj Singh scored three while for losers Vikram Sodhi scored two goals followed by a goal each by Philip Elliot and Aroon Pal Singh.

Jai Shergill scored three while Manupal Godara and Preetendra Singh scored two each for Teachers who started with 1/2 goal handicap. Navjit Singh Sandhu (3) and Sandeep Dewan (1) scored for 61 Cavalry `B’.

61 Cavl A conceded two goals on handicap to ASC, who scored two against one by Cavalry in the first chukker to make it 4-1. In the second chukker Cavary added three more to make it 4-4. In the third, ASC scored three against Cavl’s two to move up 7-6 but in the last Cavl scored two while ASC failed. Pinka Virk and Atul Gupta scored three each and AS Randhawa scored two for Cavl while Sunny Sidhu (2), NS Khera, NS Rajpurohit and Tarsem (1 each) were other scorers for ASC.

Lokendra Singh scored five for Jindal while Raghav Raj Singh, Samir Suhag, Naveen Jindal had three each.
