NEW DELHI, FEB 28: The Bharatiya Janata Party today exuded confidence that the National Democratic Alliance would be able to muster required strength to stake claim for forming the government in Bihar under the leadership of Nitish Kumar.
No party or combination has got the required majority to be invited for forming the government in Bihar. The Rashtriya Janata Dal has been rejected by the people of the state, although it had got 123 seats. The BJP and its alliance partners are in the process of mustering enough support to stake the claim. I am confident we would make it, party spokesman M Venkaiah Naidu said here.
He said Kumar was already in Bihar and was in touch of many individuals and groups, who fought the election against RJD, for their support. He however refused to identify whom the BJP and its allies would approach for the support.
“You will get to know about it when we stake the claim,” he asserted.
When reminded that the BJP had earlier gone on record to say that the largest group or party in the assembly be given first chance to constitute the government, Naidu said they were studying the previous record of what the governors had done in the case of Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat in the cases of hung assemblies.
Naidu said almost all the parties, except the CPM, had fought the election against the `jungle raj’ in Bihar. The Congress even had gone to the extent of stating that it would not only dislodge the `jungle raj’ but also institute an inquiry into the corruption cases in the past ten years.
We hope that these parties maintain their stance towards the RJD, he added.
In reply to a question whether the BJP would participate in the Chautala government in Haryana, Naidu said they had not made up their mind till now.
The party’s office-bearers would meet on March three to take stock of the election results, he informed.
