PUNE, Nov 19: Dr Indira Basavaraj, member, National Commission for Women, has submitted a proposal to district judge, Pune, V G Munshi, for sponsoring a Mahila Jail Adalat at Yerawada Central Jail and a Parivarik Adalat at the Family Court.

She has received an assurance from Munshi that a decision would be arrived at in a month8217;s time. Basavaraj who was in the city today held meetings with different NGOs working with women undertrials and has promised to look into the pending cases. Delhi has also sent a similar proposal to the commission but Pune will be considered on a priority basis, Dr Basavraj promised.

Munshi has asked the Association of Attitudinal Healing in India AAH a local NGO working with women undertrials, to submit a similar list which will be examined by him and joint district judge S.R. Dongaonkar.

According to Basavaraj, the National Commission for Women does not have the authority to hold adalats in criminal and narcotics cases. But she plans to consult the other members in Delhi.

8220;There is no such problem at the family court. If we get the go ahead from Pune, the Parivarik Adalat should come through in three months time,8221; she has assured. Meanwhile, AAH and some NGOs working in the city will be sending a joint proposal to the National Commission for Women to have the first jail adalat in Pune.
