Nashik, DEC 1: The youth wing of the Nationalist Congress Party NCP blocked traffic on the Mumbai-Agra national highway on Tuesday to demand lifting of the ban on onion exports.

Hundreds of volunteers led by national president of NCP8217;s youth wing, Jitendra Avhad, staged a rasta roko around noon at Mumbai Naka. The agitation continued for about an hour.

The agitators were demanding a support price of Rs 600 per quintal for onions and the lifting of the ban on the export of the commodity. Former Nashik MP Dr Vasant Pawar was also present. The agitators were taken into custody by the local police and later released on bail.

INFANT KILLED: A two-year-old girl was mauled to death by a stray leopard near Budruk village in Igatpuri tehsil on Sunday. The girl, Mangala, was playing in front of the house situated in a farm near the village in the morning around 7.00 am when the wildcat lurking in the fields attacked her.

The girl shrieked, attracting the attention of her mother, who raised an alarm. The leopard dragged the girl into the forest.

The girl8217;s father and the villagers later found her fatally mauled body. The local forest officials have laid a trap to capture the feline.
