NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 13: National Conference NC, ruling party of Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday said it would not oppose any talks between the Centre and the separatist Hurriyat Conference but doubted whether such a dialogue would lead to the end of gun culture in the militancy-torn State.
quot;National Conference is not opposed to any talks that the Centre might hold with anybody including hurriyat conference or militants, quot; party MP Ali Mohammad Naik told PTI here.
Naik said NC president and J and K Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah had stated in the State Assembly in March that if there was any agreement between the Hurriyat Conference and the Centre, he would recommend dissolution of the House to pave the way for them to participate in the polls.
quot; But will the gun culture in Jammu and Kashmir end even if talks between Centre and Hurriyat Conference succeed? I don8217;t think the umbrella organisation has control over militants operating in the State, particularly the foreign mercenaries, quot; said Naik, NC leader inthe Lok Sabha. He suggested that if militant violence were to end in the State, talks should be held with quot;those who are sponsoring militancyquot;, apparently referring to Pakistan. Hopes were recently raised about the talks between the Centre and the Hurriyat when the latter8217;s leaders expressed willingness to hold parleys.
