Naxalites blew up Bansi Nala halt and railway tracks on the Gaya-Dhanbad section today and also took railway staff hostage. The railways had decided to suspend movement of trains between Patna and Gaya on Saturday night in view of the bandh called by the CPIMaoist.

Naxal outfit CPIMaoist had extended a bandh call in the Magadh region today in protest against the recent arrest of their four leaders in Patna. The Magadh region comprises districts like Jehanabad, Gaya, Arwal, Nawada, Aurangabad and Patna.

Railway sources said heavily armed rebels raided the halt during the wee hours. The building at the halt was blown up using dynamites after taking the railway staff hostage.

The Naxals also blew up a portion of the railway track. No one was, however, hurt in the incident. Three railway employees taken hostage were released later without any harm. Train services on the grand chord section between Mughalsarai and Gaya were stopped today and routes of important trains were diverted.

Railway sources said that repair work on the damaged track had been taken up and movement of trains would be normal from tomorrow.

Though no other untoward incident has been reported during the bandh, normal life was affected in rural areas of the region.
