A day after he wrote a letter giving vent to his anger and alleging that attempts were being made to frame him in the Volcker investigations, former External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh this evening and explained his misgivings.

It’s learnt that Natwar elaborated on his allegations, which he had made through the letter to the PM on Wednesday. According to him, Enforcement Directorate officials were acting under instructions to somehow book a case against his son Jagat Singh and tarnish his family’s reputation. He has also questioned the motives of “higher-ups” in the Government.

Sources said he discussed these issues with the PM who is believed to have assured him that there was no interference and that the Pathak Commission was acting independently.

Natwar’s anger also stems from the time being taken by the probe. He feels the probe is taking long only because the investigators are trying to “somehow build a case against his family.”

The meeting with the PM also comes amid active political moves by Natwar to get himself heard.

He has been reaching out to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and has been in touch with prominent Congressmen including HRD Minister Arjun Singh.
