CHANDIGARH, July 21: The Indian Amateur Boxing Federation has selected the boxing squad for the Commonwealth Games to be held in Kuala Lumpur in September. The selection committee met under the chairmanship of Rajesh Bhandari, secretary IABF, captain Hawa Singh Arjuna Awardee and Maj Padam Bahadur Mull Arjuna Awardee at Patiala recently. Squad: Dingko Singh bantam weight, Gurmit Singh feather weight, Jatinder Singh light middle, Gurcharan Singh light heavy wt, G S Sandhu coach in-charge, B I Fernandez Cuban coach, N S Rawat team manager, A Gongopadhay referee/judge, Kishan Narsio referee/judge.

Meanwhile, the committee took serious view about Birju Shah of Steel Plant Sports Control Board and Bhim Singh for not taking part in the selection trials.

Bhandari said that strict action will be taken against these boxers. Chandigarh cops lose Madhya Pradesh beat Haryana and Karnataka outplayed Chandigarh in the 47th B N Mullik Memorial Police football tournament here today.

In a Group- I match, Madhya Pradesh defeated Haryana 4-1. Rupesh Thama, Sanjay Thofa, Rajendra Mega and Neeraj Khan were the scorers for MP while Ranbir Singh reduced the margin for Haryana.

Karnataka defeated Chandigarh 2-1 in a Group-III match. Henry Madan netted both goals for the winners while Ajay Kumar scored for Chandigarh.

In another Group-III match, CRPF held Maharastra to a 3-3 draw. Khibjum, Sunil Kush, and Kasak scored for CRPF. Xavier Bernard netted two goals and Zamir Shahid the third one for Maharastra.

Bihar got a walkover in Group-II against Assam Police as the latter did not turn up.
