
A half-century by Naman Shah and three crucial wickets by Yagnesh Jadhav steered Gujarat University into the quarter-finals of the West Zone Inter University Cricket Tournament for the Rizvi Trophy, organised by University of Mumbai, on Friday.
Batting first at the Police Gymkhana, Gujarat University amassed 237 for nine as Shah hit a strokeful 55. Later, Pune University were shot out for 181 with Jadhav claiming three for 36 to lead Gujarat University to a 56-run win.
At the MCA-II ground, Kandivali, Tanmay Singh missed a century by six runs as his team DAV, Indore beat JNVU, Jodhpur by 106 runs even as Prakash Jakhar8217;s five for 27 for Jodhpur went in vain.
University of Rajasthan and Goa University were the other teams to advance to the quarter-finals following fluent wins.
They will be joined by defending champions University of Mumbai, 2007 runners-up Saurashtra and last year8217;s semi-finalists RSTM University, Nagpur and VNSU, Surat who have all earned byes into the quarter-finals.
