HYDERABAD, JUNE 8: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today termed the corruption charges levelled by the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee as, baseless, incorrect and slanderous8217;.

Addressing the Telugu Desam Party State Executive Committee meeting at the NTR Memorial Trust complex here, Naidu said the memorandum submitted by the Congress leaders to the Governor was aimed at tarnishing his image. quot; But the people will not believe their campaign, quot; he said.

The TDP chief explained that all the points mentioned in the memorandum were thoroughly discussed in the Assembly earlier. quot;We have sufficiently answered every allegation raised by them, and yet, they are repeating their charges, quot; he said.

Criticising the Congress leaders for using quot;foul languagequot; and abusing him in quot;a vulgar fashion, quot; the Chief Minister asked the TDP leaders to maintain restraint. quot; One day, they say we have taken Rs 50 crore and the next day, they say it is Rs 1,000 crore, quot; he said.

Naidu felt the PCC president8217;s series of letters against him Naidu was a sign of desperation in the Opposition camp. quot; They are jealous of our goodwill among the people. They are asking for a CBI enquiry against us 8212; I do not know what it is for, quot; he said.

Dismissing the Congress claim of being able to provide a stable Government at the Centre, the Chief Minister said it was ironic that a party which was not in a position to contest in at least 250 Lok Sabha seats should dream of forming a Government on its own.

On the Congress victory in Goa, Naidu said the results could not be treated as a reflection of the national mood. quot;In fact, the BJP improved its tally considerably, compared to gains made by the Congress in Goa,quot; he said.

Reiterating the party8217;s stand that only Indians by birth should occupy high Constitutional posts, Naidu said a handful of sloganeering crowds at the All India Congress Committee office did not represent the country. quot;No Indian would ever agree to a person of foreign origin becoming the prime minister, quot; he said.
