AHMEDNAGAR, Dec 1: Ahmednagar Regional Planning Board has approved the model draft of the integrated development plan which considers various facilities for the district, taking into account the projected 66 lakh population in the year 2021.

The model draft has planned various facilities in agriculture, industry, communication and other sectors. The plan also envisages creation of new sub-urban areas at Supe in Parner taluka and located on the Ahmednagar-Pune road and at Ghodegaon Newase on the Ahmednagar-Aurangabad road.

The model draft was approved at the meeting of the regional planning board held on November 30. District collector Vijay Kumar presided over the meeting. The draft will now be published in government gazette. Objections and suggestions regarding model draft should be submitted by citizens within four months. The final draft will be prepared after conducting the hearing of objections and suggestions.

The work for preparation of the model draft was on for the last two years, S A Kasture, deputy director of the town planning department and member-secretary of the regional planning board, said.

The model draft has also suggested creation of sub-urban areas at Supe and Ghodegaon as industrial estates are taking shapes at these two places. The draft has suggested that the City and Industrial Development Corporation CIDCO should take up the responsibility of setting up the new townships. The district at present has industrialisation on 2,600 hectars of land and it is proposed to increase it to 6,000 hectars. An industrial estate is planned at Bhalwani Parner on the Ahmednagar-Kalyan road. The plan has also proposed a two-lane Manmad-Daund railway track and laying of Ahmednagar-Beed-Parali and Ahmednagar-Aurangabad railway track.

The meeting was not attended by non-government members of the regional planning including veteran social worker Anna Hazare, Magsaysay award winner Dr Rajanikant Arole, Anil Rathod and Shivaji Kardile, MLAs, and Zilla Parishad president Ashok Bhangare.
