After grading a record 4,000 institutes in the country, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council NAAC is looking at widening the ambit of the accreditation process. Not only is the process likely to go online, but the NAAC is also planning to grade disciplines, specific courses and faculty at institutes from next year. The introduction of an 8216;outstanding8217; category for institutes, above the currently highest category of 8216;Very Good8217; at 8216;A8217; grade, is also being contemplated.

8220;The idea is to make accreditation discipline and faculty-specific as had been proposed by some institutes. It can be faculty-specific as well,8221;Prof H A Rangnath, Director NAAC said.

Rangnath said that the groundwork for the initiative had already begun. 8220;We have developed a few profiles already and are in the process of creating a manual for this accreditation process. This should come through this year itself,8221; he said.

As of now NAAC8217;s Cumulative Grade Point Average CGPA at 3.01-4 segment grants accreditation at 8216;A8217; grade for 8216;high level of academic accomplishment as expected of an institution8217;.
