Excitement and suspense marked the finals of Mime In Time, the dumb charades (DC) competition on the second day of Pepsi-Verve '99. The small room at the Shri Sant Jnayneshwar World Peace Library building was yet again filled with boisterous youngsters cheering the 21 teams who made it to the finals of the event. Only this time, the excitement was on a higher pitch, with the introduction of three new rounds. Besides English albums and a rapid-fire round consisting of English/Hindi films, the competition included back-to-back DCs, geometric shapes and personalities.The participants found the first round of English songs relatively easy as they featured popular albums like Faith, On A Day Like Today and 18 Till I Die. The true challenge lay in the second round - back-to-back DCs, where one participant had to enact an English film to the second participant, who in turn had to explain the title to the third participant - all this in two minutes! As the second and third participants are sitting with their backs to each other, the game had both the participants as well as the audience on tenterhooks. Sings, hands, body contortions - they tried everything to communicate their meaning, much to the delight of the responsive audience. The films featured included Total Recall, with the participant trying to convey the image of its hero, Arnold Schwarzenegger, by flexing his biceps, As Good As It Gets, where a participant pointed to his derriere to convey the first word of the title!Geometric shapes, the next round, needed participants to exercise all their imaginative skills. Two participants who knew the object in question (like key, railway tracks, brick) were required to guide the third into drawing it on the board, explaining the object only in terms of geometric shapes. The fourth round - Personality - involved the participants enacting personalities including Monica Lewinsky, Saddam Hussein and Osho, while in the rapid-fire section, participants were given 10 English films to enact one after another while his/team members kept up the guessing game.
