Gary Lawyer, singer and musician, needs the wide, open spaces to think and create. Therefore, while his den has a canopy of the sky in the day and stars at night, he stays firmly rooted to his balcony. Gary, whose song Nights on Fire was a huge hit all over Asia, lives on the first floor of an old building in Carmichael Road. His spacious apartment has a huge balcony where Gary spends all his time when he is not working. While the scenery around him is familiar terrain Gary grew up in an apartment just around the corner in Peddar Road his current home is his wife8217;s childhood home. After they got married, Anita and Gary lived in New York for 10 years.
On their return, they moved into her home. quot; For me life in this flat revolves around this balcony.quot; The area is full of plants, has a large comfy sofa and a few chairs where Gary can sit and think. quot; This place is kind of cut off from the rest of the apartment but you can still see what is going on in the rest of the house.quot; In one corner of the balcony, there is a stack of magazines, including some old issues of Time. quot;I like to read informative stuff, quot; says Gary. Presently, he is busy with live shows and he is not sure if he will come out with another album. quot; There is no real market for Western music, it is all Indipop at the moment. I have had a lot of offers to sing in Hindi, but I am not sure, quot; says he. Instead, he is waiting for a good offer and hopes to cut a truly international album some day.
