Here8217;s a guy right after my own heart. One who shares my passion for restaurants and health. Both run in his genes. Sunil Shetty8217;s family not only owns restaurants but is also into martial arts and fitness in a big way. That8217;s why our paths have criss-crossed over the years: I am either reviewing his restaurants Mischief, Thai Me Up or interviewing him for a television show on health or watching him cook for my Penguin Celebrity Cookbook. He shares his Baked Mackerel recipe with as much panache as he spills the secrets of his fitness regime.

So, now we know how this restaurateur-turned-actor has managed to retain his taut and tight waist of 29 inches and keep his weight steady at 76 kg. At 42, with the energy and physique of a 20-something, this 58217;118217;8217; tall actor pulls off his stunts himself, be it hanging from a helicopter or running underneath a moving train. I mean, how many guys do you know who respond to a cell call saying, 8216;8216;May I call you back? I8217;m hanging on a harness?8217;8217;

Obviously, being fit is one of the primary demands of his profession, looking good is the side-effect. And for this, our hero works out in his elegant South Mumbai home-gym for an hour everyday. A combination of weights and cardio-vascular workout, a hot shower and the feeling is euphoric. 8216;8216;You feel there is God and then there is you.8217;8217; His words, not mine, though I more than agree.

His stunning wife Mana works out with him after dropping off seven-year-old Athiya and 10-year-old Ahaan to school. The kids are into Taekwando, kickboxing, tennis and cricket. So is Sunil. A serious cricket player, she8217;s just back from South Africa, where he went with his son.

Healthy eating is also part of the regime, the focus being fruits, fresh vegetables, idlis and dosas, without the coconut chutney, whole grain breads and limited white meats. Even Sunil8217;s parents, who live in the adjoining apartment, adhere to this, with daily-walks thrown in. All the three disciplined generations are fast asleep by 10.00 pm, every single week night and awake well before 6.00 each morning. A family which stays fit together, fits together8230;
