
Stone-throwing: 1 held
An alert commuter helped arrest one person on charges of throwing stones at local trains at Matunga on Friday.
Sudhan Daken Sonale 31, a resident of Thakurli, was travelling in a Kurla-CST local at 2.15 pm when a stone was thrown in his direction between Sion and Matunga. Sonale was not hurt but he got down at Matunga station and nabbed Munna Ranjan 25, who was pelting the stones. He was taken to Dadar railway police station.
Mazgaon Jewellery shop looted
A jewellery shop at Mazgaon was looted to the tune of Rs 40,75,000. Unknown persons broke into Sagar Jewellery Shop at Chirag building after Friday night and stole 10 kg of gold, 5 kg silver and Rs 35,000 in cash. The thieves sneaked into the shop after dislodging the AC machine from the wall. A dog squad was brought in and finger-prints taken, police control said. No arrests were made, they added.
4 extortionists held at Sion
Four extortionists were arrested at Sion railway station on Thursday oncharges of demanding money from a customs clearing agent. According to a press release from the Anti Extortion Cell the four accused were Mahadev Dhage, Sunder Kannagala, Parshuram Bhosle and Vijay Singh. The agent who has an office at Ballard Pier had been receiving threatening calls for the last three months demanding Rs 25 lakh. After making several calls from the interiors of Maharashtra like Udgir, Solapur, Kolhapur and Pune, the extortionists agreed to come to Sion railway station to collect the ransom where the a police team had laid a trap for the four. According to a senior police official, while Singh has five cases of robbery and car thefts against him, Dhage and Kannagala had earlier been arrested in a couple of extortion and assault cases. Meanwhile, further investigations are on, the police added.
