
Dacoits attack family, kill girl
IN a daring dacoity, eight members of an unknown gang broke into Samarth Kripa, a bungalow owned by Vishwanath Bhoir 42 at Mharal village, Kalyan at 3.45 am. They attacked Bhoir, his wife Sunanda 38, son Pandurang 12 and daughter Nita 17 with wooden sticks and a cricket bat, killing Nita on the spot and rendering the husband and wife unconscious.
A seriously-injured Pandurang watched helplessly as the gang members went around picking up valuables before fleeing the scene. Pandurang then dragged himself to the neighbour8217;s house over a furlong way and alerted them. Titwala police were alerted and investigations are on. The Superintendent of Police, Thane Rural, visited the place, along with local MLA Shabir Sheikh.
Rajan member killed in encounter
A member of the Chhota Rajan gang was killed in a police encounter on Saturday at Wagle Estate in Thane. Nandu alias Kishore Jagdish Mogre was spotted by a police team along with another unidentifiedassociate at 6.10 am. The police team asked Mogre to surrender. Instead, the gangster fired at the police party. In retaliatory firing, the police injured the gangster but his associate managed to escape. Mogre was taken to Thane Civil Hospital where he was declared dead before admission. A pistol, two handmade bombs, and one chopper was recovered from him.
Stone hurled at commuter
In yet another incident of stone throwing, a 42-year-old man was injured when he was travelling in a harbour line train between King8217;s Circle and Mahim on Saturday morning. According to railway police, Balbir Singh Sandhu was hit on the right ear by a stone hurled at the moving train at around 10.40 am. He was taken to Bandra8217;s Bhabha Hospital where he was discharged after administering treatment. A case has been registered with the Dadarrailway police.
Cylinder bursts, woman dies of burns THE body of a 20-year-old woman, Fatima Hasanali, was found badly charred by neighbours at the Fanaswadi building, Bori Mohalla,near Mohammed Ali Road on Saturday. Fatima was alone and cooking at her home on the first floor of the building when neigbours heard an explosion and screams. When they forced open the door, they found her badly-charred body. She was declared dead of 100 per cent burns at JJ Hospital. The JJ police are probing the cause of the accident and a cylinder explosion has not been ruled out.
Gold bars recovered from vessel
In the wake of the alert sounded on the eve of Independence Day that anti-national activities and smuggling may intensify, the Ramp;I division of Mumbai Customs Preventive Commissionerate has recovered 300 gold bars of ten tolas each from aboard the vessel M V Barzan, docked at Mole Station, Indira Docks. As a part of the general surveillance on in-bound ships from the Gulf sector, the special team conducted a search and recovered the bars from a Pakistani national, Tanveer H Awan. The vessel, valued at Rs 34.4 crore, was also seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. M V Barzanhas 45 crew members on board, of which 23 are of Pakistani nationality.
Special show on soldiers in locals
The Centre for Cultural Relations will present a special show of theatre in the local trains today in the memory of the Indian soldiers who lost their lives during the recent intrusion by Pakistan.
This show will be called Bharat ke Shahid8217; and will be held in moving local trains in different parts of the city. This unique medium of communication was discovered by Rajan and has given him an entry into the Limca Book of World Records and various other record books. It was discovered by him after the serial bomb blasts in the city when he organised plays in various regional languages in the local trains.
Inter-faith meeting held today
THE Bombay Catholic Sabha has organised an inter-faith prayer meeting at 11 am tomorrow at the Dilkhush School for the Mentally Handicapped, opposite Hotel Palm Grove at Juhu-Tara Road, on the occasion of Independence Day. Eminent Urdu poet HasanKamal will represent the Muslim community, while other communities will be represented by Kuldip Singh Padam, Dr Somdev Shastri and others.
