MUMBAI, July 22: The Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai is celebrating Vanmahotsav ’97 on July 24. Planting of tree saplings will be done by IIT students, staff and Kendriya Vidyalaya school children. An entertainment programme for school children will also be put up. S P Godrej, director, Godrej Soaps Ltd is to be the chief guest while Director S P Sukhatme will preside over the function.
Lecture
The Indo-American Society, Mumbai is organising a lecture programme in celebrations of 50 years of Indian Independence on Friday, July 25. Dr P R Brahmananda, leading monetary economist and former director department of economics, Mumbai University will speak on `50 years of Indian economy: Lessons for the future’ with special focus on investment, financial flows and future of the rupee.
Charity show
A live charity show of Rohini Hattangady’s Hindi play `Aparajita’ is being organised on July 31 at the Rangsharda auditorium, Bandra, on July 31. The show is being organised in aid of handicapped children and proceeds from the event are to be handed over to the children after the show.
Public meeting
The Forum of Free Enterprise has organised a public meeting on `The future of non-banking financial companies’ in the wake of CRB Capital Market’s failure. The meeting will be addressed by Dr AC Shah, former chairman of the RBI committee, at the Bombay House Auditorium, Homi Mody Street near Hutatma Chowk on Thursday, July 24.
Award
Oberoi Flight Services, part of the Oberoi Hotels group has been awarded the British Airways Performance Bond Award for 1996. Instituted by British Airways, the Performance Bond Award recognises excellence in catering standards, quality of food, in-flight crew reports, passengers’ compliments, a positive control rating, excellent crew hand-over procedures and a high standard of hygiene.
New cemetry
A new Hindu cemetery was commissioned by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporaiton (BMC) near the Buddha cemetery at Carter Road, Bandra, for the convenience of the residents of the H west ward. The cemetery has arrangements for two pyres and a burial ground for childern below 12 years of age. Permission to use the cemetery will be given by the death registration clerks of the health department of H west ward office situated at St Martin’s Road near Bandra police station.
