
Nominations for awards invited
Each award carries a medal, a citation and Rs 3,00,000 in cash. Awards will be presented on January 7, 2000, at the Nehru Centre Auditorium, Worli. The selection will be done by members of a jury under the chairpersonship of Justice P N Bhagwati, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Recommendations for the awards should be sent either in English or in Hindi by individuals or institutions. Self-nomination will not be entertained. There is no prescribed form for submitting recommendations. The details should include name of the nominee, his/her date of birth, educational qualifications, residential address, the nature of the work carried out by the individual and his/her contributions to the society. Therecommendations, accompanied by supporting documents and newspaper clippings, should be forwarded to: The Chairperson, Diwaliben Mohanlal Mehta Charitable Trust, Khatau Mansion, 1st Floor, 95-K Bhulabhai Desai Road, Oomer Park, Mumbai-36.

Inauguration of glaucoma project
Mr Raj Khilnani, Additional Commissioner of Police and Mr B T Bhalekar, Dy Commissioner of Police attended the function. The programme was organised by TCCI Council, set up by the House of Tatas to uplift the Community and NAB, one of the largest pioneering Welfare Institutions in India.
NAB8217;s mobile opthalmic unit, a fully air-conditioned and computerised van for the detection and treatment of glaucoma is operated by qualified opthalmicpersonnel for the project. During the first phase of the programme, from July 8217;98 to June 8217;99, 8250 patients8217; eyes were tested at the Tulsiwadi Slum area, out of which 240 cases of glaucoma, 652 cases of cataract, and 3037 other cases including refractive errors, pigmentosa etc. were detected. All these cases were treated medically or through surgery as required. In the second phase of the project, civic organisations will be included.
