
Stone hurled at commuter
A commuter was injured in his right eye when a stone was hurled at the Churchgate bound 2.07 pm local train he was travelling in between Virar and Nalla Sopara. According to a relative, 40-year-old Dominic D8217;Mello fell unconscious when the stone hit him. He was admitted to Garden View Hospital by the station master of the Nalla Sopara railway station, where he received eight stitches. The station master also disbursed Rs 500 from the Railway Fund as immediate relief, the relative added.
No clues yet on missing boy
The police are still clueless about the mysterious disappearance of a school boy from his hostel room in Andheri in January. Jean John was last seen at around 3 am on January 18 at St Dominic Savio School, Andheri east, where he was a boarder. A police complaint was lodged at the MIDC police station. P K John, Jean8217;s father, said he has been fanatically searching for his son all over the city in vain.
Details of the missing boy has been out to allpolice stations notice. All the police stations in the city, said police sub-inspector A Kokade.
Fire at J J School of Arts
A fire broke out this evening at the ground floor exhibition hall of the J J School of Arts opposite Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station gutting furniture, windows and electric installations. Police said the incident occurred around 8.20 pm. The fire was brought under control within an hour. None was hurt.
In another earlier incident, four stalls were damaged on S G Barve Marg, next Abhyudaya Bank, Kurla East. Besides being used as residences, one of the stalls sold eye-glasses. One person was badly burnt and rushed to Sion Hospital.
Bomb scare at Trombay
There was a bomb-scare at Atomic Energy High School No 2 at Trombay resulting in panic and confusion in the campus. A search of the premises revealed nothing.
According to the principal, around 8.30 am an anonymous caller called to say that a bomb has been planted in the school premises and it would go offaround 2 pm. The school authorities in panic rushed to vacate students from classes. Police sources said that their investigations revealed that a similar call had been received two years ago.
IES seminar on management
The Indian Education Society8217;s management and research institute will organise a seminar at Y B Chavan Centre on challenges faced by the industry in the next millennium. Called Looking Ahead 8211; The year 2000, Prosperity in Austerity,8217; the seminar, to be held on February 6 will have personalities outlining their vision for the next millennium.
