Essay contest at SIES College

Twenty five colleges from the city participated in the essay and debate competition for the SIES 8211; Bank of Baroda Trophy at the decennary celebrations of the South Indian Education Society SIES College of Commerce amp; Economics, Sion, held during this week.

In the debate, Mehernosh Mehta amp; Wafa Hakim from Jai Hind College at Churchgate stood first, while Pooja Gupta and Toshan Tamhane from R A Podar college at Matunga were placed second and Vighanesh S Patil and Sharmistha P Maheshwari from N M College at Vile Parle west third. Mehernosh Mehta was judged the best speaker.

Prashanth Kamath of SIES bagged the first prize in the essay competition, while Raviraj Bhave R A Podar College and Vishal V Nair Royal College were placed second and third. Purnima N Kulkarni from Rizvi College at Bandra was awarded the consolation prize.

The prizes were given by K Kannan, the chairperson and Managing Director of the Bank of Baroda on the concluding day of the banking andhousing exhibition which was organised by the SIES today.

Fake Kalnirnays seized by CID

CID officials recently seized fake Kalnirnay almanacs from Messers Garg and Company, Lahori Gate, Delhi, and arrested one Pradip Kumar Garg. The CID was asked to investigate into the offences of falsification of the trade mark of Kalnirnay. Garg was released on bail on the condition that he would report to the CID at specified intervals. According to a press release sent by the managing director of Sumangal Press Private Limited, Jayraj Salgaonkar, the Kalnirnay almanac is being illegally duplicated by various printers in New Delhi.

Beach patrolling team set up

The Mumbai police has formed a Beach Patrolling team8217; to patrol Girgaum Chowpatty round the clock. This is part of the Clean Beach Programme which was initiated by cultural affairs minister Pramod Navalkar to keep the beach clean of anti-social elements.

WIT exhibition at Linking Road

The Women8217;s India Trust WIT has organised anexhibition of home furnishings, gifts and food items at the CKP Hall, Linking Road, Khar from January 11 to 13 between 11 am and 8 pm.
