USIS press advisor dead

MUMBAI, January 28: Raja Chandran, press advisor to the USIS and the American Consulate General, died of a heart attack on January 28. He was 52. Before joining the USIS, Chandran had worked with the Indian Express. He is survived by a wife and daughter. His cremation will take place on Thursday, January 29, at the Municipal Cremation grounds, Daulat Nagar, Borivli (east) at 9 am. His residential address is Ramayan Building, B/603, off Veer Hanuman Nagar (near Turning Point hotel), Dahisar (West).

Sant Thyagaraja samadhi day

The 105th samadhi day of the singer saint Thyagaraja was celebrated on January 26 at Sri Ram Mandir, Bangur Nagar, Goregaon west, under the auspices of Sri Thyagabramha Aradhana Sabha in association with the Ramakrishna Sabha. About 40 disciples of Pudukole N Padhbanabham sang Thyagaraja kirtis from morning onwards. An abhishekha of milk, oil, panchamrita, coconut water and sandal paste was also held.

Treatment for kidney ailment

Vesico-Uretic Reflux (VUR), a condition in which there is a reflux of urine from the urinary bladder to the kidney, can now be treated using endoscopic surgery. The relatively new treatment called `STING'(Submucosal Teflon Injection) is now being performed at Wadia Children’s Hospital since the last one month. The technique is a boon to children as VUR is a common infection among them. This novel method of correcting VUR endoscopically takes 15 minutes and avoids an open operation which can take up to to two and a half hours. The patient does not have any external wounds or scars and can besent home the same day.
