Thane roads to be widened

Phase-II of the road widening programme in Thane city will commence next month following administrative and financial sanction by the general body of the Thane Municipal Corporation TMC which met on Saturday.

Phase-I, which covered 33 roads including 55 km, was undertaken at a cost of Rs 63 crore in November 1997. The second phase will include 31 roads spanning 35 km and will cost Rs 53 crore.

NCPA workshop on classical music

The Jindal Arts and Creative Interaction Centre of the National Centre of Performing Arts will hold a workshop on ten great western classical composers titled From Bach to Tchaikovsky8217; on October 31 and November 1 at the Little Theatre. Gazetted officers threaten stir

The Maharashtra StateGazetted Officers8217; Federation has threatened to launch an agitation to protest the state government8217;s failure to pay them arrears of allowances such as HRA, CA, CLA and officials of the Agriculture, Revenue, Public Works, Irrigation and Forests departments transport allowances.

The Federation stated in a press release that the government should decide on granting time-scales to officers at the earliest. However, it has welcomed the central government8217;s decision to modify the recommendations of the Sukhathankar Committee regarding pay scales of officials in the above mentioned departments.

Fellowship for journalists
