
Employees threaten stir
Class IV employees of the Life Insurance Corporation have threatened to boycott the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections if their basic salaries were not increased. In a memorandum submitted to LIC chairperson on Friday, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Jivan Bima Nigam Chaturthi Sreni Karamchari Sangh led by the all-India general secretary Sadananad Paudwal demanded an increase in their basic salaries on the RBI pattern as per a 1984 agreement. They also demanded an immediate change in the promotion pattern.
TISCO felicitation
DR JJ Irani, managing director, Tata Steel ,who was honoured with a knighthood by the Queen of England, will be felicitated in a function in Mumbai on January 15, 1998. Sir David Gore-Booth, High Commissioner of UK, will be the special guest of honour, while Chief Minister Manohar Joshi will be the chief guest at the function. The function has been jointly sponsored by the Indian Institute of Metals, Chemtech Foundation and the Indian branch of the Institute of Materials, London.
Train schedules
Due to construction work at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, some up trains will be terminated at the Dadar station itself from the midnight of January 12 to February 10 for a period of thirty days.
These trains include 1082 Up Kanyakumari-Mumbai express daily ; 1012 Up Kolhapur-Mumbai Mahalaxmi Express daily ; 1354 Up Bhusaval-Mumbai Passenger daily ; 6332 Up Trivandrum-Mumbai express Saturday only ; 6340 Up Nagarcoil- Mumbai Express Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday only and 7494 Up Tirupati-Mumbai Express Monday and Friday only The down trains will continue to leave from CST.
