Hiken Shah’s maiden first-class hundred was supplemented by a brilliant 88 from Abhishek Nair as Mumbai dominated the second day’s proceedings of their Ranji Trophy Elite Division Group B match at the Golf Grounds here on Thursday.

Nair was merciless to the Maharashtra bowlers as he clobbered them for four boundaries and five sixes taking Mumbai to a mammoth total of 515 runs for 8 before skipper Amol Mazumdar declared.

Nair shared some useful partnerships with the tail as he ensured that Maharashtra were out of the contest before they got to bat. Mumbai’s bowlers consolidated their position later in the day, snaffling four wickets by the end of the day.

In reply Maharashtra were tottering at 99 for 4 losing all their top batsmen including Dheeraj Jadhav and Hrishikesh Kanitkar. They still trail by 216 runs to avoid the follow-on.

Southpaw S Sriram (1) and night watchman Anupam Sanklecha (0) were at the crease at the draw of stumps.

Brief scores: Mumbai 515/8 dec (S Kukerja 114, Wasim Jaffer 78, H Shah 112, A Nair 88, RP Jadav 3/125) vs Maharashtra 99/4 (H Khadiwale 54, R Powar 2/24).
