CBFC officer transferred

Sanjeevani Kutti, regional officer of the Central Board of Film Certification CBFC, under whose jurisdiction films like Bandit Queen, Fire and Elizabeth were screened, has been transferred on promotion as secretary in the Cotton Textiles department in Mantralaya. S.Gopaalaratnam, Administrative Officer of the CBFC has taken over her duties till a new RO is appointed.

Ashok Sinha, joint secretary of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has replaced Kutti as MD of NDFC.

Junglee gang leader killed

Janglya Kawle, leader of the Junglee gang, was killed in an encounter with police near Cheeda Nagar, Chembur, early on Monday morning. On a tip-off, a special squad attached to unit-8 of the crime branch laid a trap for Kawle alias Junglee near Cheeda Nagar junction. They had information that he was going to come to the area to meet an associate, police said.

Kawle 35 was spotted in the area at around 4.15 am. When asked to surrender, he opened fired at thepolicemen. He was injured in the subsequent exchange of fire. He was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital but was declared dead before admission.

LIC concessions to policy-holders

As 1999 has been declared the year of senior citizens, the Life Insurance Corporation of India LIC has offered concessions to its senior policy-holders in keeping with the spirit of this declaration.8217; From now on, holders of Whole Life Policy will be given maturity payment on their attaining the age of 80, instead of 85, which was the earlier stipulation, if the policy has run for a minimum of 40 years. In cases of Limited Payment Whole Life Policies, maturity proceeds will be paid on completion of 80 years of age, instead of 40 years.

BHEL manager further remanded

The New Delhi-based Deputy General Manager of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited BHEL Atul Rohatgi and another person were further remanded to judicial custody till October 13 by a local court today in a case of attempting to bribe a police inspector tohush up a ragging case. Rohatgi, father of a 2nd year MBBS student of Grant Medical College, was held on Saturday for attempting to bribe the officer to get his son discharged from a ragging case.

NSDF bags Habitat award

The National Slum Dwellers Federation NSDF has been awarded this year8217;s Habitat scroll of honour instituted by the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements for its contribution in the field of settlements development. The city-based organisation, nominated by United Nations Development Programme UNDP, has shown an innovative approach in designing and constructing low cost houses, waste disposal systems and toilets.
