Pawle’s brother released on bail
Anand Pawle, brother of gangster Sada Pawle (who was killed in a police encounter last year), was today released on a bail of Rs 10,000 by Additional Sessions judge S P Kukday, along with two sureties.
Anand, a ticket examiner with the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), had been arrested in connection with a cheating case and remanded to police custody till March 31.
In the bail application filed on Anand’s behalf by advocate G V Rajeshwar, it was submitted that Anand and his sister along with another person were eyewitnesses to the killing of Sada Pawle.
Anand had filed an affidavit in this regard in High Court, and was scheduled to be examined before the Encounters Enquiry Commission on March 23. However, on March 22, he was arrested by railway police, the application read.
Rajeshwar submitted that Anand was arrested with the motive of restraining him from appearing before the Enquiry Commission and added his arrest was malafide and effected only topressure him.
Special public prosecutor A G Deshmukh, while opposing the bail application, said custodial interrogation of Pawle is essential to uncover his modus operandi.
Anand is expected to depose before the Enquiry into Encounters Commission on Monday . Meanwhile, the Additional Sessions judge S P Kukday on Thursday released Imtiyaz Dawood Merchant, an accused in the Gulshan Kumar murder case, on a bail of Rs 10,000, along with one surety.
Seven nabbed for forgery
Seven persons, including four students, have been arrested by the Azad Maidan police on Thursday for forging fake school certificates.
The police acted on a complaint that some students had obtained admissions to the Hill Grange Junior college by obtaining fake certificates. A peon, Anand Gurung, who has been arrested, had allegedly sold the students the certificates between Rs 5,000 and Rs 7,000. His associates have been identified as Manoj Katayara, Vijay Apte, Sachin Talegaonkar and Dhanraj Sahdev. The accused have beenremanded to police custody till April 10.
