
Dighe8217;s petition against entry tax
Thane district Shiv Sena chief Anand Dighe filed a writ petition in the Bombay High Court challenging the Sena-BJP combine government8217;s recent move to introduce the entry tax for the vehicles that use several flyover while coming into the city.
The accused Sham Prasad and Narendra Kakshapati were remanded on Wednesday to judicial custody till July 27 by Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Usha Iyer. Both had arrived by Royal Nepal Airways and were to take a connecting Air India flight to Dubai later. They were in transit when customs broke open a computer and video cassette player on suspicion and found the Rs. 500 denomination notes stacked in it. The accused said they were couriers of a Nepali businessman Roshan Sreshtha. The money originally was taken to Nepal by an Indian name Govind.
Bollywood to close shop on July 17
Bollywood would close down business for a day on July 17 as a mark of respect to the martyrs who laid down their lives fighting Pakistani intruders in Kargil and also to express solidarity with Indian soldiers who fought at the alter of the nation.
Shootings, recordings and dubbings would be suspended for the day as the studios have decided to remain closed on Saturday, various organisations of the industry announced in a joint release today.
The industry has also decided to participate in Aye Watan Tere Liye, a mega show being presented by Anupam Kher8217;s Radical Entertainment Company in New Delhi on July 17 to raise funds for Army Central Welfare Fund.

Ex-Ranji player held
A former Ranji player Bhojraj Ankush Alot has been detained by the Railway police on alleged charges of stealing luggage at the Bhilad railway station on Monday at the Mumbai-Valsad sector of Western Railway WR. A WR spokesperson confirmed the arrested. Alot was travelling by Viramgam passenger train. He has been arrested by the Government Railway Police on alleged charges of stealing luggage.
MSEB workers contribute Rs 2 crore for soldiers
Maharashtra State Electricity Board MSEB employees and officials have contributed Rs two crore to the Prime Minister8217;s relief fund for rehabilitation of the families of armed forces personnel killed or injured in the Kargil crisis.
MSEB Chairman Ashok Basak handed over the cheque to Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde, a spokespersons for the board said today.
