Stone hurled at WR commuter

After nearly two weeks of relative peace on the tracks, the stone-throwing incidents on trains started on Wednesday night when a commuter was hit between Santacruz and Khar.

Dinesh Babubhai Gadam 20 was on his way home in Borivli on a fast local when he was hit by a stone on his nose at around 7.15 pm. In a continuation of the general trend, he was also caught standing on the footboard when the incident happened.

The profusely bleeding Gadam got off at Jogeshwari to complain to the station master. He was taken to the Bhagwati hospital where he was administered first aid and let off.

A case has been registered with the Bandra Railway Police.

New Mumbai sub area commander

Brigadier Tej Krishen Kaul today took over as the Mumbai sub area commander. He succeeds Brig R N Kapur who is moving to an Operational Corps in the Eastern Command. Brig Kaul was commissioned in 1968 in the gallant Kumaon regiment of the Indian Army after passing out from the Officers8217;Training Academy, Madras. He is a graduate of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and did his higher command course at College of Combat, Mhow.

The brigadier has rendered 31 years of service in both field and peace stations all over the country in prestigious and important command, staff and instructional appointments which include the tenures as brigade major, assistant military secretary and instructor at the Military Intelligence School, Pune besides the colonel general staff of a frontline division.

Bail for accused in Rupali murder case

The two accused in the sensational Rupali Patil murder case, Neeraj Kantilal 15 and Yogendra Rao 14, were granted bail by the Juvenile Justice court in Bhiwandi today.

Rupali Bhikaji Patil 17, a Dombivili resident, was torched after being doused with kerosene by Neeraj and his accomplice Yogendra on October 4. The murdered had allegedly informed about Neeraj8217;s affair with Supriya Sawant 14, a neighbour, to the latter8217;s parents. Followingpressure from the Sawants, their daughter had broken up with Neeraj offering to tie him a rakhi instead.

The Juvenille Justice court had granted bail to Supriya on grounds that she was a girl but the boys were denied the same in spite of their parents going in appeal to both the Kalyan Sessions court and the Bombay High Court. The boys8217; had since been remanded back to the Juvenile Justice court, Bhiwandi.
