Stone hurled at local hits commuter
Deepak Gangaram Gawai, a resident of Vikhroli, was injured below his nose when he was hit by a stone while travelling on a CST-bound local train this morning. The 27-year-old Gawai was on his way to work at around 10.30 am on a harbour line local, when he was hit between Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar and Wadala railway stations. He was taken to St George8217;s Hospital, where he was discharged after being administered first aid. With this, the number of cases of stone pelting on locals this year has gone up to 44, an average of one per week. A case has been lodged with the Kurla railway police.
Train hits road roller, one dead
Four compartments and the engine of Mangala Express bound for New Delhi from Ernakulam derailed today after the train hit a road roller crossing the tracks between Pen and Panvel. Though the driver of the road roller lost his life in the accident, no casualties have been reported among passengers so far. Railway officials haveblamed the driver of the road roller for the accident.
