
Gastro deaths rise to nine
The death toll due to gastro-enteritis has risen to nine with 930 cases reported in municipal hospitals since September 1, 1998. Nearly 109 patients are currently undergoing treatment at various civic hospitals. While Kasturba Hospital opposite Arthur Road jail has 31 patients, 18 patients have been admitted in the Bhagwati Hospital in Borivli. However, civic health committee chairman Sardar Tara Singh said that the death toll was less compared to last year when 53 died of the disease. The BMC is monitoring the cases and checking for water contamination, he added.
