
MbPT not helpful: CM
Cheif Minister Manohar Joshi on Tuesday lamented the uncooperative attitude of the Mumbai Port Trust MbPT towards the state government. Joshi was replying to a question about opening up of the MbPT8217;s road to the public in order to avoid traffic congestion in central Mumbai. He said the MbPT was requested to hand over the road to the government so that it would help in clearing heavy traffic. 8220;Be it docking of Vikrant or jetties and containers, the MbPT is always uncooperative,8221; he said.
Non-teaching staff on strike
About 90,000 non-teaching staff from non-governmental schools in the state will go on an indefinite strike from Wednesday to press for their various demands, including promotions. They had struck work earlier from July 1 to 11 last year, and the government had agreed to their promotions with effect from October 1, 1994. They met Education Minister Sudhir Joshi, who promised them that their demands would come up for discussion before the cabinet. But thisdid not not happen, the union8217;s secretary Anil Kale said. The union plans to hold agitations all over the state.
4-yr-old dies in wall collapse
A four-year-old child was killed in a wall collapse at Dombivli on Tuesday morning. Police said that Lal Babu Mishra and his family members were sleeping in their home, when their neighbour8217;s wall collapsed on their house at 6:00 am. Lal Babu8217;s son Amanlal 4 was seriously injured and was rushed to hospital, but he was declared dead on admission.
2 electrocuted in Bhiwandi
Two persons were electrocuted when an MSEB wire fell on them in Padamnagar under the jurisdiction of the Bhiwandi police station at 7:30 am on Tuesday. The dead bodies could not be identified, police said.
