VADODARA, May 27: The board of studies of the M S University8217;s Science faculty has cleared the Statistic department8217;s proposal for introducing the Bachelor8217;s degree in Computer Science as a self-financed course.
However, senior professors of the faculty opine that despite the board8217;s clearance, it would take a long time for the university to begin the course as they would have to examine the course feasibility, besides solving infrastructural problems. The syndicate8217;s clearance is also awaited.
However, for the benefit of the students, the faculty has come out with a new prospectus that contains information about the courses on offer, the course contents, the staff strength, the research interest and career prospects.
According to the prospectus, a Chemistry graduate can take up research projects in subjects like organic synthesis, photochemistry, reaction dynamics, and liquid crystals. Students can also pursue advanced studies in premier institutes like in India or abroad. Jobs are available for chemistry students in the chemical, pharmaceutical, textile, dye, and petrochemical industries, the prospectus says.
Physics students can specialise in solid state physics, electronics and radio communications or nuclear theory. Careers in colleges or universities, BARC, PRL, IIT, Space Research Centre or ISRO are open for these students.
Mathematicians concede that their options are numbered; apart from academics, they can work as statistical analysts in industries, or aim for the civil services or defence.
These jobs can come their way because functional analysis, topology, advanced calculus, operations research and numerical analysis are taught to the students.
For statistics students there are openings in research organisations, computer applications, planning, population studies and survey, according to the prospectus.
