MPs protest note calling revolutionaries extremists

The Lok Sabha secretariat today withdrew a document on freedom struggle after the Opposition had pointed out to derogatory references it contained on some freedom fighters.

Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Dr Manmohan Singh, had said that the document 8216;8216;Movement for Freedom struggle and revolutionary leaders8217;8217; described revolutionary leaders as terrorists and extremists. He and Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee demanded that the document be withdrawn from circulation.

The Congress leader said words like 8216;8216;terrorists8217;8217; and 8216;8216;extremists8217;8217; have a different meaning in today8217;s context and should not be used for freedom fighters.
