PUNE, Feb 17: Taking serious note of the dissidence in the party, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee MPCC has sent an observer for the standing committee election, to be held on Friday.

Party sources said MPCC president Prataprao Bhosale has appointed Girish Gandhi of Nagpur to oversee the polls. Gandhi has reportedly already arrived in the city and was busy holding negotiations with selected leaders.

Leaders might reconsider the candidature of former mayor Suresh Shewale and would opt for allotting one post for Republican Party of India. The party leaders would also hold negotiations with senior leader Sharad Pawar, who arrived in the city late last night, sources said.

Meanwhile, rebel corporator Nitin Jagtap today submitted a letter to city Congress chief Mohan Joshi, urging him to call a fresh meeting of the parliamentary board to finalise the candidates.

Pune Vikas Aghadi PVA leader Suresh Kalmadi, who arrived in the city also conducted a meeting of corporators. PVA corporator Shiva Mantri has filed his nomination paper against the party decision.
