BHOPAL, NOV 14: Ruling Congress in Madhya Pradesh appears to be facing a difficult situation with former deputy chief minister Subhash Yadav announcing his decision to launch a State-wide agitation from November 22 to press for various demands of farmers.

Yadav was deputy chief minister during Digvijay Singh’s first term as Chief Minister, but he was not made a member of the Council of Ministers in the second term. He announced his decision to launch a State-wide agitation for farmers some time back at Khargone, and added that these include uninterrupted power supply for 24 hours a day. But as per directives of AICC, no Congress leader can organise an agitation like this and in case he has any grievance, it should be raised in the party forum.

In view of this, the State Congress president Radhakishenma Laviya, MP, has written a letter to Yadav asking him to be present at a meeting of the managing committee of Madhya Pradesh Congress here on November 21. According to the State Congress general secretaryand spokesman Manak Agarwal, Singh would also be present at the meeting where Yadav can place the demands of farmers. There is a possibility that some agreement between the Chief Minister and Yadav could be reached at this meeting, following which the former deputy chief minister’s agitation may be called off. But if an agreement between Yadav and Singh is not arrived at on Sunday, there would be no option left for Yadav but to proceed further with his proposed agitation. And if that happens, it remains to be seen what attitude or stand the state Congress or AICC takes towards the former deputy chief minister.

Yadav is allegedly unhappy with Singh for not including him in the Council of Ministers and this could well be the reason behind his decision to contemplate an agitation to support the farmers’ demands.

Apart from Yadav, other senior ministers of the first term who were not made ministers again are Rajendra Prasad Shukla, Hazarilal Raghuvanshi and Harvansh Singh. All of them are said to be sulking, but it is only Yadav who has come out openly against the State Government by insisting that it fulfil the demands of farmers.
