
CHANDIGARH, Jan 10: The box culvert bridge linking Chandigarh and SAS Nagar was formally opened today after it was inaugurated by the City Mayor Kewal Krishna Adiwal.
With the opening of the 92 feet by 52 feet bridge, the people will have an easy access to SAS Nagar especially on rainy days when seasonal nullah overflows. The discharge capacity of this nullah is 8,500 cusecs water per second.
Bridge, which was constructed in a record time of two months, cost Municipal Corporation Rs 60 lakh against the sanctioned estimated cost of Rs 65 lakh.
Adiwal, accompanied by local MP Satya Pal Jain, councillors and MC officials inspected the bridge before it was thrown open to the public. Other prominent persons present on the occasion were former mayors Gian Chand Gupta and Kamla Sharma, besides BJP councillor Ranjana Shahi, among others.
Meanwhile, Municipal Commissioner S.K. Gathwal congratulated staff of the MC Engineering Department for completing the project in time. He also recommended the name of SDO Gurinder Singh for reward.
Earlier, Mayor was welcomed by Sector 25 Janata Colony residents. On this occasion, the people brought out their problems and Mayor promised to solve the same in due course.
