If you thought that Gujarat Gaurav Yatra is confined to the state only, you should have been at Ambaji on Saturday where caretaker CM Narendra Modi launched its fourth phase.

A plethora of central BJP leaders, including Uma Bharti, took it to the national stage saying that Modi was the pride of the 80 crore Hindus of this country. Gujarat in-charge Ramdas Agarwal went a step ahead and hailed Modi as desh ka neta and desh ka gaurav.

Playing on the sentiments of women, the BJP launched the fourth phase of the yatra from the temple-town of Ambaji with a huge gathering of women herded with the promise of a free darshan.

BJP sang praises of the ‘‘Gujarati woman’’ and Modi played his part very well projecting himself as the eliminator of terrorists and protector of Hindus. Akshardham became a flogging horse and was compared to the 9/11 attack.

Even as investigations continued into the Akshardham attack, Modi said: ‘‘The attack on Akshardham was made with the intention of taking hostages and negotiate a postponement of J-K polls.”

He also targeted the Congress and the media: ‘‘These so-called secularists become uncomfortable whenever the word Hindu is mentioned.” Referring to reports that the attackers wanted to teach him a lesson for challenging ‘‘Miya Musharraf’’, Modi said that this shows the mindset of the so-called secularists.
