It was a day of mixed fortunes for Sania Mirza in literal sense. While the mixed doubles kept her and partner Fabric Santoro afloat with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Vania King of US and Frantisek Cermak of Czech Republic.
But her growing stature in doubles faced a setback as she exited with a first round loss in the company of Eva Birnerova.
The Indo-Czech pair went down to the seasoned combination of Lisa Raymond of the USA and Samantha Stosur of Australia 6-1, 6-2 yesterday. Sania, who returned to the courts from a two-and-a-half month injury lay-off a fortnight ago, won the doubles title in Morocco in her first tournament since returning to action.
The 20-year-old Indian had earlier bowed out of singles in the second round, following a 2-6, 4-6 loss to Serbian seventh seed Ana Ivanovic.
