
NAGPUR, MARCH 9: A farmer was brutally done to death by unknown assailants and his body disposed of in a nullah at Jaamtha, under the Hingna police area, near here, recently.
Police identified the victim as Rajeram Tulshiram Thakur, a resident of village Paanjra, who had left home last Thursday afternoon and had since beenmissing. It was his son, Umakant 22, who first noticed Rajeram8217;s body in the nullah when he set out to search for his father last Saturday, police said.
Around 2 pm last Thursday, Rajeram sold a cart-full of cotton to a contractor and left for a nearby venue where a bullock-cart race was being held with cash amounting to Rs 4,000 from the sale. He had since not returned home and his family had been searching for him, police said.
According to the police, the body bore multiple wounds on the head and face, suggesting that the victim may have been assaulted with a hard and blunt object like a stone. An offence of murder and attempt to destroy the evidence has been registered. API Upadhyay of the Hingna police is investigating.
MURDER BID: PROFESSIONAL rivalry culminated into a murderous assault on a sand contractor, allegedly by his rival and eight other armed assailants, at Shirpur under the Kalmeshwar police area near here on Wednesday afternoon.
Kishore Nanaji Kapse, the victim, has since been moved to Mayo Hospital here with grievous injuries to his head and face after he was attacked with swords and other sharp weapons. The police have booked his rival, Vijay Balwant Chaudhary, and eight others on charges of attempt to murder, assault, unlawful assembly and rioting. No arrest was reported.
According to the police, Kapse and Chaudhary have been allotted adjacent sites at a sand-collection centre Reti-ghat at Shirpur. Both suspected each other of clandestinely lifting sand from their sites. This would often lead to quarrels between the two.
Around 1 pm on Wednesday, Kapse set out for Bazargaon after loading his tractor-trolley with a sand consignment when he was intercepted by Chaudhary and his aides at Shirpur. They asked him to show the consignment documents and picked up an altercation, leading to the attack, police said.
Five of the aides were later identified as Sanjay Gajbhiye, Gopal Bodhe, Kailas Welder, Ravindra Phulke and Mohan and a hunt was on for all the assailants. Sub-inspector Mendhe of Kalmeshwar police is investigating.
ELECTROCUTED: A 24-year-old labourer died of severe electric shock while working at an under-construction site at Hingna late Sunday evening. The police have since booked the owner of the site and the labour contractor for negligence causing death of the labourer, Bharatlal Domaji Thakre 24 of Gajanan Nagar.
Munna Gupta, who owns the site, had hired the services of contractor Bhujanglal Katas Rahangdale 35 of Lakhanwada in Madhya Pradesh, for constructing a house. Work at the site went on well past sundown under the glare of lights arranged by installing temporary electrical fittings.
While picking up an iron foil, Thakre came in contact with a live electric wire and suffered severe electric shock, leading to his death on the spot, police said. The matter is being investigated.
ARRESTED: THE Kondhali police on Wednesday arrested Prahlad Sampat Mankar 42, who in a fit of madness, clubbed a kirtankaar Devrao Ramchandra Gawande 45, to death while the latter was engrossed in a religious discourse at the Laxmi temple in village Shiva, on Wednesday night. Sub-inspector Nagre is investigating.Atilde;tilde;
