
PUNE, Nov 9: Six people have lost their lives in as many mishaps in three days in city and rural fringes. Four others were injured.
Seventy three-year-old Vishnu Shivram Tapkir from Kashinath Patil Nagar in Dhankawadi lost his life when a horse slammed its hooves on him. The animal ran amuck on the crowded Pune-Satara Road during the peak hours on Friday morning.Tapkir was taking a stroll near the Padmavati bridge around 10 a.m. when the mishap took place. The police said the trainer, Ramesh Kaluram Gaikwad of Bhavani Peth, was taking the animal towards Dhankawadi for a marriage procession when the incident took place.
Gaikwad lost control over the animal which panicked in the heavy traffic and galloped. A mini-stampede ensued as the passers-by ran helter-skelter. Tapkir came under the horse8217;s hooves before he could move away, they added.
The old man was shifted to a hospital by the passers-by where he succumbed to injuries on Saturday. The Sahakarnagar police have filed a case against the trainer.
In another mishap, a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run case in Bhavani Peth on Saturday night. His identity could not be ascertained till this evening.
The unidentified man was walking near the M and D Sales and Service Petrol Pump on Shankarsheth Road when a vehicle ran over him and sped away. Some passers-by shifted him to the Sassoon Hospital where he died.
The Khadak police have launched a search for the vehicle driver.
In the third incident, two persons were killed on the spot while four were injured when a jeep dashed against a tanker near Indapur on Pune-Solapur Road on Saturday morning.
The police ascertained the identities of the deceased as Bhairu Bhagwan Mhaske 40 of Varkute village in Karmala taluka of Solapur district and Datta Mohan Chavan 32 of Malshiras town in Indapur taluka. Four other injured have been admitted to the government hospital at Indapur.
The police said the jeep was carrying several passengers from Pune to Solapur when the mishap took place. The jeep dashed against a tanker coming towards Pune after its driver, Ashok Sarjerao Deokar 26 of Hingaon village in Indapur taluka lost control.
The Indapur police have filed a case against Deokar.
In yet another accident, Chandrakant Vyankatesh Jana, a 40-year-old resident of Ghorpadi Peth, was killed on the spot when a tanker dashed against his car at Bhandgaon village on Pune-Solapur Road on Saturday night.
Yavat police have filed a case against the tanker driver, Lahanu Maruti Navle of Sarola Suryavanshi village in Shrigonda taluka of Ahmednagar district.
Another mishap claimed an unidentified man8217;s life when a Pune Municipal Transport PMT bus brushed aside his cycle in Aundh last evening. The deceased was cycling near the ESIS hospital when the mishap took place.
The Chatuhshrungi police have filed a case against the bus driver Vasant Sadashiv Samgir of Narayan Peth.Vitthal Nameo More 44 of Tingrenagar was killed when a jeep dashed against his bicycle on Pune-Alandi Road on Sunday afternoon. More was cycling from Vishrantwadi when the jeep heading in the same direction hit his cycle. The Vishrantwadi police have filed a case against the jeep driver Anwar Fakruddin Inamdar 26 of Akluj in Solapur district.
