Embassy of Mexico has tied up with Lalit Kala Akademi to exhibit prints of Mexican contemporary art (1972-2004) from Kyron Archives in various cities of the country. The exhibition that was inaugurated by Governor TV Rajeswar a Lalit Kala Akademi in Aliganj on Friday evening comprises work of living legends Fransisco Toledo, Gabriel Orozco, Rivera and Siqueiros from a private collection. “Mexican prints are the finest in the world,” claimed Mexican Ambassador in India Rogelio Granguillhome. “We are aggressively promoting exchange of Indian and Mexican culture,” added the envoy. Paintings such as the one titled ‘Contemplating a Kiss’ and the one called ‘The Magnate’, as also quite a few others, are a thought provoking combination of the abstract with the traditional style of painting. The journey of artists from the 1970s to the 21st century as captured in the exhibition traces the evolution of modern art. The use of colours is not to a vibrant effect, it is sheer technique that leaves an impact. In the exhibition that will continue till January 2, visitors could avail of a special catalogue featuring all the exhibits, along with an essay by former director of the Arizona State University Museum and interviews of artists by Andrew and Beatriz, whose private collection these paintings belong to.
