2 held for duping

Two persons were arrested on Thursday by the Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai police for allegedly duping members of the public to the tuneof Rs 2.69 crore. While Prakash Dhuri and Manohar Bandekar were arrested and remanded to police custody by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate A A A Kidwai at the 37 th Esplanade court, police are on the lookout for one Florence. The facts of the case when presented revealed that Florence, who is an employee of Johnson and Johnson along with Dhuri and Bandekar, had ingratiated themselves with employees of the company as well as several other persons. The trio, after gaining the confidence of members of the public, told them that they were into finance, food products export, and transport, and induced them to invest in their concern with an offer of 36 per cent interest.

They made around Rs 2.6 crore between 1995-98. Though they initially paid the interest to the investors, it was stopped later. Police investigations revealed that the trio had purchased several cars, a piece of land in Sindhudurg district, a quarry in Juinagar etc. Investigations have also revealed that the trio used to buy and sellland.
